As it became known yesterday the company Red Hat announced the acquisition of one of the largest start-ups CoreOS, the amount of the transaction is estimated at $250 million, and its completion is scheduled for March this year.
Red Hat is the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, using a community-based approach to providing reliable and high-performing cloud, virtualization, storage, Linux, and middleware technologies.
CoreOS was one of the first to make a big bet on Container software and began using the Google-created container management system Kubernates.
The company was able to develop software that gives its customers a system tool that works efficiently regardless of the platform chosen for the operation, which gives users the freedom to choose cloud services.
This acquisition will allow Red Hat to integrate CoreOS development into its OpenShift and Red Hat Atomic products, to offer users a number of new products based on CoreOS developments while curtailing its own Container Linux project in favor of a more successful solution from the acquired startup.
This is not the first acquisition of Red Hat in the recent past … In the middle of last year, Red Hat has already swallowed Permabit to integrate deduplication technologies in RHEL and storage solutions and images in container isolation and virtualization systems, 3scale which develops API-programs for monitoring network traffic of the organization of access policies, working with documents, as well as for analytical work with web applications and Codenvy developing the cloud service codenvy.io and the accompanying tools for organizing the development of applications that focus on use in cloud systems.
